Journée Sciences et Médias Live Drawing

Project

Scientists, journalists, politicians: the good, the bad, and the ugly? Or how to interact for the common good.

Health crisis, climate change, energy crisis… Rarely have scientists been so sought after by politicians, rarely have politicians needed scientists as much, and rarely have journalists – especially science journalists – been so exposed.

However, decision-making is not the role of scientists, calculating is not the role of politicians, and parroting the words of either is not the role of journalists…

That’s why we offer you this « Science and Media » day. The objective? To try to understand how this sometimes stormy threesome works and provide insights for better dialogue.

Client

The entire day is hosted by Yves Sciama, an independent science journalist and member of AJSPI.

The event is organised by the Association of Scientific Journalists of the Press (AJSPI), the National Library of France (BnF), the French Chemical Society (SCF), the French Physics Society (SFP), the French Statistical Society (SFdS), the French Computer Science Society (SIF), the Society for Applied and Industrial Mathematics (SMAI), and the Mathematical Society of France (SMF).

Yves Sciama

Science journalist, moderator of the Sciences et Médias 2023 conference, former president of AJSPI.

Fiammetta did a great job live sketching our conference. Her drawings were artful, smart and engaging, and they gave the event an original touch which the audience and the organizing team appreciated. It definitely adds something to any event to have an artist with an original mindset contribute thoughtful drawings. I recommend the RIVA Illustrations experience!

Artist

Fiammetta Ghedini

Fiammetta Ghedini is the co-founder of RIVA Illustrations. After completing her PhD in Cognitive Sciences in 2011, she worked as the editorial coordinator of the European research communication project ERCcOMICS (2015–2019), which used comics to make cutting-edge science accessible to a wider audience.

Since 2019, she has been working as an artist and science communicator at RIVA Illustrations, creating illustrations, graphic novels, and visual narratives that bridge art and research.

In 2025, she published her first comic book with Dargaud, titled Une Insatiable Envie de Douceur, a thought-provoking and visually rich exploration of our complex relationship with sugar.
